Christmas countdown begins in the High Peak

The countdown to Christmas will start in earnest in Glossop this weekend (25-26) with the Christmas Lights Switch On. 

Norfolk Square will be the focus of attention on Saturday from midday through until after the lights are switched on at 7pm.  

This year the lights will be switched on by Jo Gregory and some of her team from The Hummingbird Project, Deputy Mayor Councillor Graham Oakley, and Mrs Val Oakley and of course Father Christmas  

There will be Christmas stalls, hot food vendors, mulled wine, bar, live bands, Glossop old band, Fairground rides, balloon modelling, face painting, late night shopping and Santa will be there with his sleigh and the Mountain rescue team.  

Glossop's own Centre Stage Dance Academy and the Limelight Theatre will also be performing. 

In Chapel-en-le-Frith the Christmas Light Switch On will take place on Friday, 25 November. 

There will be children’s rides and entertainment, carol singing, mince pies and hot punch. The tree at the Methodist Church will be lit at 6.30pm and the tree on the Market Place at 7pm. 

The Christmas Light Switch On in Whaley Bridge takes place on Saturday 26 with a number of activities taking place throughout the day. 

At 5pm everyone is welcome to join a Lantern Parade through Whaley Bridge Memorial Park from the Goyt Road entrance to the station car park for nativity, carols and light switch-on. 

In New Mills the Christmas Lights Switch On, Market and Fair will take place on December 3rd from 5pm. 

There will be food and drink, shops and businesses opening late, children’s fair rides, and lots of entertainment including Friends of New Mills Art Theatre, Stockport Ukulele Players, and New Mills Brass Band.
