Children stay safe during the winter thanks to opticians

An opticians in Glossop are helping to ensure children in the local community shine bright this winter by donating high visibility vests to mark Road Safety Week.

Specsavers Glossop on High Street West donated 100 vests to Padfield Community Primary School to make sure children are clearly visible and can easily be spotted by motorists, when their activities take them out into the community.

"Many of our customers and staff have close connections with the school, so we were keen to offer our support to help keep children safe when they’re outdoors."

Headteacher, Anne Moore, Padfield Community Primary School, added, "We’re so grateful for the donation; we often take children on trips in the local area and it is very important that they are easily recognisable and highly visible to staff as well as road users.  We will put them to good use over the coming months."

This year road safety week, organised by road safety charity Brake, focussed on creating ‘Safe Roads for Everyone’.  The 2022 campaign raised awareness of key areas of road safety including safe roads, safe vehicles and speeds, the new hierarchy of road users and the importance of inclusivity to keep us all safe on the roads.

All children under 16, as well as those under 19 in full- time education, are entitled to an NHS funded eye test. For more information or to book a sight test, call Specsavers Glossop on tel: 01457 899560  or click here.
