Black Tie Ball for Community Defibrillators

This Saturday 7th October, a black-tie ball is being held at Glossop Cricket Club. Starting at 6:30pm, the night is being held to raise funds for Glossopdale Community Defibs.

The event in question is the brainchild of trio Adam Radcliffe and Megan Elliot (Centre Stage Entertainment) and Chloe Elliot. Speaking to Adam on how the idea came about, he said “myself and Chloe Elliott decided to put it on after her dad (Mike Needham) was saved by a defibrillator earlier this year at New Mills Leisure Centre.”

This was the initial spark for the fundraiser to be held, as the pair both knew how important the defibrillators were to saving Mikes life. After the initial idea, Adam spoke to Mikes’ daughter Chloe to get the ball rolling.

“Me and my fiancée Megan Elliott run an event entertainment company so after a quick chat with my very good friend Chloe this seemed like a good way of us to make some money for Glossopdale Community Defibs,” Adam said, “so we can buy as many defibs as we can for the local community that will hopefully never get used!”

Glossopdale Community Defibs is a local group of volunteers that raise money to put defibrillators all around the Glossopdale area. Spearheaded by Adam Corbally the group has big aims, as Adam told us Speaking about why the group is important, Adam told us when you have a cardiac arrest, your chances of survival go down by 10% every 1 minute, so after just ten minutes you haven’t got much of a chance at all. That’s why its our quest to make Glossop the defib capital of the world!”

The group has already made an impact in Glossop, as Adam told us we already have 12 defibs paid for and set up around Glossop, we deliver CPR and defib training as well.” The group is fully volunteer ran, and alongside Adam is Val Cochran, a paramedic who is involved with a lot of the group. “Many others have experiences with defibs and cardiac arrest, such as Jade Garrigan who survived cardiac arrest thanks to a defibrillator, it is pretty amazing what can be done with defibrillators.”

The group raise money in many different ways, and Adam guarantees that every penny goes back into purchasing defibrillators. “we raise money through organizing fun events, such as race nights, charity nights and auction nights. They involve people having fun and throwing a few quid in the pot to fund these defibrillators.”

Adam is grateful for the fundraiser being put on, saying “all the guys, Adam and Megan from Centre Stage and Chloe from CLN Clinics have just been fantastic at organizing the whole thing. There are some amazing raffle prizes on offer as well, a day at the races, a track day in a supercar, loads.”

Businesses in Glossop have contributed to the prizes as well, including T.Property who have donated a 6-bedroom house for a 4 night stay near Abersoch, and Glossop Caravans, who have kindly donated a weekend stay in one of their caravans which will be dropped off and collected from a caravan site of your choice within a set radius.

At the event, there will be entertainment and people will be able to get a deeper understanding on the importance of defibrillators. “Our aim for the night is to provide our guests with some defib knowledge and raise awareness of how important these genius medical devices truly are,” Adam Radcliffe said. “We will also be providing an evening jam packed with entertainment, laughter, great company and the opportunity to let your hair down and party the night away whilst raising money for Glossopdale Community Defibrillators – a cause very close to our hearts.”

The event is now sold out to attend, but raffle tickets are still available. For those interested in entering into the raffle, scan the QR code below to be in with a chance of winning. Or to support Adam Corbally and his team, head to Glossopdale Community Defibs and drop them a message.
