Author's new novel about Glossopdale's Elizabethan folk hero

Scottish author Mark P Henderson has released a new novel titled “Black Harry” which is based around an Elizabethan folk story that originates in Glossop.

Mark told us more about the book explaining, “It is the story of the Glossopdale rising of the late 1570s / 1580s, a story that very few people know about including most people of Glossop.”

Critics have deemed the novel ‘whitty’, ‘fascinating’ and ‘brimming with vitality’

Inspiration for the book came from Mark discovering the name of Harry Botham in 2013. He commented “I was reading a book called ‘The book of Glossop’ and it was a short historic book about the trouble of George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury and this trouble was led by Harry who walked down to London from Glossop to protest and they ended up facing the Privy Council so I began to research this.”

After writing the book, Mark wants readers to “know that Glossopdale at that time had great national importance”. He also wants people to understand the the importance of this story.

The book is available to purchase directly from the publisher which is Stairwell books as well as pre ordering it on Amazon.
