A small move makes a big difference for Glossopdale Foodbank

Nobody could have guessed that moving Glossopdale Foodbank's donations basket in Glossop's Tesco store could make a difference, but that's what happened.

Tesco moved the basket from its in-store position to the store foyer to see if it would attract more people, but after a four-week trial, donations had dropped by nearly 50 per cent.

So the manager kindly agreed to the basket being restored to its original position near the tills and self-service checkouts.

Charlotte Mendes-Kelly, manager at Glossopdale Foodbank, said: "Tesco’s foodbank basket contributes to one of our biggest food collections, and through the generosity of Tesco customers, along with our other generous donors, we are able to provide over 6,000 meals to 667 people on average a month (of whom 248 are children).

"Now the basket is back in its original position and we can’t thank the people who donate enough for their kindness."

Charlotte added: "This is also a good time to thank all the other stores who accommodate foodbank baskets, and the many donors and volunteers who keep the foodbank supplied and working. Without such kindness and generosity we could not exist."
