When 11-year-old Merlin decided to partake in the “Trig Bagging” challenge to raise money in memory of his late mother, he had no idea just how much he would achieve.

After almost a year of partaking in the challenge, which includes getting to all 88 triangulation pillars within the Peak District, Merlin has finally completed the "Trig Bagging" challenge.

The challenge was done in memory of his late mum who passed away when he was just 10 weeks old as well as the Mummy’s Star charity which his Dad, Pete Wallroth founded over 10 years ago. 

Merlin ended up raising over £2,500 for the Mummy’s Star charity which is over three times his original target of £880. The challenge was completed on Saturday with a walk up Cock Hill in Old Glossop and he was joined by around 30 friends and family.

Pete commented on his son's achievement, he added: "He’s delighted, relieved and can’t decide if he ever wants to see another trig point again!"

He is really overwhelmed by what he’s managed to raise and loved having so many friends with him for the final one with family, friends, team friends and coach from Tintwistle Athletic and long time supporters of the charity all coming out."
