Who has appeared in court in Tameside?

From a thief with a sweet tooth to a number of drivers banned from the road for drink drive offences, we round up some of the recent cases heard by Tameside magistrates.

Chocolate thief behind bars

Tameside magistrates jailed Manchester man Ryan Bardsley for 18 weeks for theft from Ashton’s Aldi store.

The 23-year-old, of Midlothian Street, pleaded guilty to taking chocolate worth just over £200 on two separate occasions on June 10 and 19 this year.

Magistrates heard he was already subject to a suspended jail sentence imposed by the court for previous similar offences just days before the latest thefts.

He was ordered to pay a total of £20 compensation.

Motorway driver way over limit

Disqualified driver Darius Salyklis was over the drink drive limit when he was stopped at Ashton on the M60.

The court handed him an eight weeks jail sentence, suspended for 12 months for the June 17 offence.

The 33-year-old, of Langworthy Road, New Moston, pleaded guilty to the charges after being found to have 49 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He was ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work and banned from the road for 40 months.

He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £128 victim surcharge.

Banned from the road for one year

Shaun Lever, 43, of Gower Street, Ashton, was banned from the road for one year by Tameside magistrates.

He admitted failing to provide a specimen of breath when suspected of having committed a driving offence, although initially he denied the charge.

Magistrates fined him £188 and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

The offence had happened in Bury on February 25 this year.

He was fined a further £50 for being in possession of a quantity of amphetamine.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by three months if a driving course is successfully completed.

Mandatory 55 hours work

Terry Vella must carry out 55 hours unpaid work for assault, Tameside magistrates have instructed.

The 46-year-old, of Keats Avenue, Droylsden, admitted the charge which happened on June 13 in the town this year.

Magistrates ordered him to pay £200 compensation, plus £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £95.

Twice over limit

Motorist Guyo Jarso was more than two times over the drink drive limit when stopped on Katherine Street in Ashton on June 20 this year, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 28-year-old was stopped behind the wheel of a Toyota Verso and found to have 81 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates banned him from the road for three years and fined him £320. He must also pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 36 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

His address was given as Portland Street, Bolton.

Would-be thief broke into businesses

Lyndon Lewis broke into two businesses with the intention of stealing, Tameside magistrates were told.

The 33-year-old, of Warbling Way, Stalybridge, admitted breaking into the Astley Arms  pub in Dukinfield on February 10 this year and also Norcomm Ltd on Oxford Street in Ashton on February 15.

He also admitted interfering with a vehicle on Hall Street in Ashton with intent to steal on July 17.

Magistrates ordered him to carry out 120 hours unpaid work, plus pay a total of £130 compensation.

He must also pay a £95 victim surcharge.
