Vaccine drive raises almost £2k for local homelessness charity

THANK YOU: Members of Smurfit Kappa are thanked at Emmaus for their donation.

Homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley has received a £1,935 donation from Stalybridge-based Smurfit Kappa, raised via an employee Covid-19 vaccine drive.

The cardboard packaging manufacturer offered an incentive to employees, pledging to donate £30 for each staff member vaccinated.

Emmaus Mossley was selected by staff as their nominated local charity to benefit from the funds raised.

Gary, one of the community members at Emmaus Mossley, said: “I’m sure I speak for all companions when I say, we’re very grateful for this kind donation from Smurfit Kappa Stalybridge.

“The generosity of our supporters, the general public and local businesses never ceases to amaze and without such kind donations, we wouldn’t exist.”

Emmaus Mossley supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home, work, companionship and individual support.

Whilst at Emmaus, people are given the opportunity for a fresh start, gaining skills and work experience alongside training and personal development.

Kaye Holland, HR Advisor at Smurfit Kappa UK Ltd, said: “When we asked our employees to pick a charity they would like to donate too, Emmaus Mossley was the charity picked as a few employees who live in the area know of the great work and support Emmaus provides.

“As a company, we are glad our donation can help to support that great work of Emmaus Mossley.”

Smurfit Kappa Stalybridge produces corrugated packaging solutions for all industries. It is a FTSE 100 company and one of the leading providers of paper-based packaging in the world, with operations in 23 European countries and 13 countries in the Americas.

Alison Hill, Director at Emmaus Mossley, said: “This generous donation was a total surprise and a fantastic help as our charity continues to recover from the challenges of the pandemic.

"On behalf of the Emmaus Mossley community, sincere thanks to Smurfit Kappa and their team in Stalybridge for selecting us as their nominated charity.”
