Turning the table on litter louts

Clean up crew ready for action.

Residents swung into action on Monday morning in a spring clean around the Hyde Godley Turntable and along the Trans Pennine Trail.

The clean-up had been spearheaded by Laura Rushton who is the Community Champion at Hyde Morrisons.

Joining the team was the Civic Mayor of Tameside Cllr Janet Cooper and her consort Dennis Fitzpatrick.

The turntable itself was constructed in the 1930s, but its use phased out by the late 1960s as electric trains replaced the age of steam trains.

Back in 2014 a small army of volunteers began a restoration project of the overgrown turntable began so that it could be enjoyed as a resource by local schools and as a place of interest for visitors.

Sadly the area has been blighted by litter louts and flytipping, so the community clean-up team certainly had their work cut out doing the best to clear up the area for others.
