Triple delight for Tameside community groups

IN THE MONEY: Members of St Gabriel’s Place of Welcome receive their £500 boost from the Asda Ashton community initiative.

Three local community groups are celebrating after being awarded charitable grants totalling £900 from Asda Ashton as part of the store's Green Token Giving online vote.

St Gabriel’s Place of Welcome, Tameside East Food Bank and The Wildflower Garden (wellbeing group) have all received funds from the Asda Foundation scheme.

The digital Green Token Giving scheme allows customers at Asda Ashton to pick groups and causes close to their own hearts to receive vital funding boosts.

This year Asda Foundation is committed to giving £1m to thousands of local good community causes through the scheme.

Recipients are awarded funds based on customers voting online and then at the end of the voting period, the charity with the most votes receives £500 and the runners-up each receive £200.

GROWING PLACES: The Wildflower Garden Wellbeing Group.

St Gabriel’s Place of Welcome received the most votes and was presented with the £500 donation. They are planning to spend their money on technology items that will help to keep isolated members connected.

Asda Ashton Community Champion Colette Regan said: “We are really proud to be able to continually support local charity groups in our area through our green token giving.

“We are delighted that customers have nominated three good causes that will now benefit from a vital funding boost.

“Congratulations to St Gabriel’s Place of Welcome, who had the most votes and receives £500 and our runners-up Tameside East Food Bank and The Wildflower Garden who both received £200 each.”

If you would like to nominate a local charity or good cause for future Green Token Giving votes, visit www.asdafoundation.org/how-to-apply and fill in a Nominate a Cause Form.

This year winners will receive £500, second £400 and third place £300.
