Tree planting ceremony in Dane Bank for important anniversary

The friends of the horse's field association held a special tree planting ceremony on the patch of land they saved 30 years ago.

In 1991, founding members of the association, Sue and Liz, set up a residents’ group to protect the field from becoming a housing development.

The horse’s field, situated on the boundaries of West Denton and North Reddish, then became a protected open space after residents fought for its preservation.

To mark the achievement, the association planted an oak tree on the field last Thursday (October 28).

Guests from all over the borough attended the event, including Mayor Councillor Janet Cooper, MP Andrew Gwynne, MP Andrew Bennett, Councillor George Jones, Councillor Brenda Warrington, Councillor Mike Smith and Councillor Allison Gwynne.

The friends of the horse’s field association now look forward to an open day on the land and the prospect of getting green belt status.
