The Denton theatre group on a 'Mission' of its own

Denton-based Ensemble Theatre is on a 'Mission' to make the arts accessible to everyone - young and old.

As if to prove the point, the group staged its latest production - aptly entitled ‘Mission’ - at The Premier Lounge venue in Audenshaw.

The all-action intergenerational musical theatre production brought together young people, aged ten and up, alongside adults with a variety of experience in theatre.

Ensemble Theatre Inclusive Arts was founded by Janet Fagan to support people’s health and well-being after the difficult times during lockdown and the pandemic.

Janet said: “The show was a fabulous opportunity for all involved to showcase their talents at a lovely, friendly local venue.

“We aim to bring people together to support health and well-being, community cohesion and community theatre at its best.”

Janet runs weekly workshops in dance, drama, media, singing and theatre production for young people and adults.

The workshops take place between 6-8pm on Thursdays for young people and on Fridays for adults, who also meet from 6-8pm, at New Chapel Unitarian Church, Denton.

The group has benefited from Action Together funding with Jigsaw Housing Neighbourhood Team helping to fund venue costs at The Premier Lounge for the staging of ‘Mission’.

More recently Ensemble Theatre members took part in a St John Ambulance first aid awareness course as part of the ‘Three Ways to Save a Life’ campaign.

The campaign was launched earlier this year to mark the five year anniversary of the Arena attack to encourage more people to learn vital life-saving skills, the inquiry into the attack having heard calls for more members of the public to learn basic first aid techniques.

The theatre group members learnt various life-saving techniques including how to use a defibrillator.
