Tameside women in business to be celebrated in event at Ashton Library

Tameside Libraries are marking International Women's Day by celebrating women in business.

At “Women Mean Business”, a special event at Ashton Library on Tuesday 8 March, they will be welcoming three inspiring women – Vic Elizabeth Turnbull, Victoria Holden and Uma Gally – to share their stories of self-employment, social enterprise and business success.

Councillor Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member for libraries, will open the proceedings with some of her own reflections.

The free event lasts from 10am to 1pm and refreshments are included. However, booking is essential via www.tamesidelibraries.eventbrite.co.uk

Vic Elizabeth Turnbull is the founder of podcast production and training company MIC Media, which was nominated in the British Podcast Awards for its work with Manchester City Council and the Pankhurst Trust on “Strong Manchester Women”.

She has featured on the prestigious Northern Power Women Future List and has worked across the creative industries and with award-winning youth charities including Uprising Leadership and NOISEfestival.com

Victoria Holden, who has a background in social housing, recently launched NorthernLily as a social enterprise offering horticulture workshops for people of all ages and abilities with the aim of connecting them to nature.

Uma Gally is director of Creator Ltd, a business development company specialising in design, digital marketing, event management, music, PR and media. She has been tour manager of Grammy award winning US hip-hop group Furious 5.

In addition she has worked with many high-profile people and brands including world champion boxer Ricky Hatton from Hyde, Wella, Sony, Virgin, “Emmerdale” and “Coronation Street”.

Cllr Feeley said: “Change is happening and we need to continue to make progress to empower women and young girls.

"If you’re a woman who’s in business, or would like to be, I strongly recommend this event. The personal stories you’ll hear are very inspiring.”

Tameside Libraries are part of Build a Business in GM Libraries, an innovative new project running across Greater Manchester. It offers tailored support for new businesses and helps entrepreneurs plan, develop and grow their own ideas.

The project is part-funded by the European Union with a £1.3 million grant from the European Regional Development Fund, managed by Manchester City Council, and runs until June 2023.
