Tackling mountains for Michael

Jenny and Nat during their Kinder Scout adventure.

A group of friends will be gearing up to reach new heights as they prepare to tackle Mount Snowdon.

Jenny, Nat and Jade have committed to pushing past their limits in support of a young man suffering from oral cancer. In 2021, aged just 27, Michael Barlow received the harrowing news that he had been diagnosed with oral cancer.

He underwent an 18.5-hour surgery during which he had a full glossectomy as well as 1cm of his jawbone removed.

Michael also had to endure weeks of both radiotherapy and chemotherapy and has recently finished his courses of these.

Working as a nursing assistant and the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Michael has spent so much of his life doing his upmost for others and has been unable to work due to his illness.

Witnessing his immense bravery, Jenny Blane Waddington decided it was only fitting that she, along with friends Nat and Jade, raise as much money as possible to aid him in his recovery.

The NHS workers will be heading to Wales to climb the highest Welsh mountain, Snowdon. With the hike set to take place on 23rd April, this will coincide with head and neck awareness month.

In order to prepare for their challenging endeavour, they have been taking on walks in the area and have recently climbed Kinder Scout. During their experience, Jenny said whenever their legs ached, they thought of Michael and how everything was in honour of him.

Jenny, who is from Audenshaw, is hoping to raise as much as possible for Michael and any support at all would be incredible for them.
