Stalybridge food bank's Easter egg campaign

Steve Barton.

Barty's Food Bank in Stalybridge is collecting Easter eggs to spread a bit of cheer to good causes.

Last year, the food bank collected more than 14,000 Easter eggs. All the eggs are distributed in time for Easter to women’s centres, women’s refuges, the homeless, schools, care homes, children’s homes, the NSPCC, hospitals and families.

You can drop Easter eggs off at Tesco Stalybridge, Barty’s Community Pantry and Food Bank, Five- A-Day Stalybridge, My Wendy House, Mellors Bakery, Little Munchkins Nursery, Bright Futures Day Nursery, Buckton Vale Primary School, Wild Bank Community School, Twins Firwood Carpets Stalybridge and the Waxing Station in Stalybridge.

Since founding Barty’s Food Bank, Steve Barton BEM - honoured in 2019 for his amazing community work - has relied on the generous donations of Tameside residents.

The food bank, located alongside Stalybridge Labour Club in a re-purposed metal container, is constantly in need of supplies due to the incredible demand which has only increased throughout the pandemic.

But thanks to the continued and generous support of local businesses and the community, Steve has been able to provide food to families, schools and more, while his Christmas toy appeal has once again been a remarkable success.

Barty’s Food Bank is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9am until noon, but Steve himself is accessible most days and you can message him on his Facebook page.

To help boost the food bank coffers, Steve is holding a fund-raising night at Stalybridge Celtic in April.

The Ultimate Take That Experience will take place at Bower Fold on Saturday 30 April. Tickets cost £15 and includes a buffet. It starts at 7pm and goes on until late. For more details contact Steve on 07961 911964 or email stevenbarton70@hotmail.co.uk
