Stalybridge club donates door fees to help the homeless

A Tameside homeless charity has received a £900 boost thanks to club revellers.

We Shall Overcome, of which Tameside Stalwart Pauline Town is a part of, have been given the money by Stalybridge’s Zeros Bar.

The bar opened earlier this year and is owned by Stalybridge councillor Sam Gosling.

Pauline Town is a well known name throughout Tameside thanks to her tireless charity work which has helped feed, clothe and house countless numbers of homeless people in Tameside.

Of Zeros suggested entrance price, 50% of that was kept for donation to charities, with Pauline Town being the first to receive the money.

Cllr Gosling explained: “When we opened Zeros Bar we were contemplating ticketed entry or free entry.

“There’s a lot of money to pay out with bands, sound engineers, Dj’s and all that so we decided to do something a bit different. We decided to do 50% goes to charity, 50% goes to pay towards the music and it’s all suggested donations.

“We ended up with about £900 which was great.”

Sam was full of praise for the work that Pauline does from the Station Hotel.

“There’s nobody that does more form people in Tameside than Pauline so we decided to donate the whole amount instead of going 50-50.

“I’ve known Pauline for years. Over the last few years she’s become known for helping people and the amount she does for others is unbelievable.

“She’s at that pub every single day, storing food and clothes for homeless people she just never stops. There’s no one more deserving to have a donation than Pauline.”

Throughout the pandemic Pauline has continued her work feeding and helping the homeless find permanent accommodation, all with her compassion and care shining through.

Cllr Gosling said: “She’s storying food and clothing for homeless people, she just never stops.

“There’s no one more deserving of having a donation than Pauline.”
