Marvellous Shrek musical heads to Mossley

A popular drama group is staging a giant of a show next week.

Mossley Amateur Operatic and Drama Society, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, will take to the stage at the George Lawton Hall in Mossley with Shrek - The Musical.

Out of 550 applications across the country, MAODS is one of only a few societies in the North West to have been awarded the rights to perform the fun show.

Based on the story and characters from the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, this hilarious and spectacular production turns the world of fairy tales upside down in an all-singing, all-dancing, must-see musical comedy.

It’s already beating records, with tickets for the Saturday matinee selling out in just one week. There are also now only limited tickets for the Friday and Saturday nights too.

Shrek the Musical is a one-of-a-kind, hilarious fairy tale in which curses are reversed, monsters, donkeys and dragons find love, and princesses are beautiful in all shapes and sizes.

Grumpy, gruff, green ogre Shrek lives alone in his swamp. The world fears him, and he is more than happy to leave the world to itself.

Suddenly, his hermit existence is ruined when a group of homeless fairy tale characters (Pinocchio, the Wicked Witch, the Three Little Pigs, and more) burst into his swamp, seeking refuge from the persecution of the cruel, vertically-challenged Lord Farquaad.

Join Shrek, our unlikely hero, and his loyal steed Donkey as they set off on a quest to rescue the beautiful (if slightly temperamental) Princess Fiona from her tower, guarded by a fire-breathing love-sick dragon. Add a gang of fairy tale misfits, and a biscuit with attitude, and you’ve got an irresistible mix of adventure, laughter and romance, guaranteed to delight audiences of all ages.

Performance dates: Monday, February 28 to Saturday, March 5, (including Saturday matinee) at the George Lawton Hall, Mossley.

All tickets cost £16.50, plus a booking fee.  Monday and Tuesday offer (equivalent to £15 a ticket): four tickets for £60, five tickets for £75. Visit https://maods.org/tickets/
