ROUND-UP: Who's appeared in court recently?

A man caught selling fake designer T-shirts and a van driver more than three times over the legal limit are among the cases in our latest round-up from Tameside Magistrates' Court.

Three times over the limit

Van driver Anthony Dewhurst was more than three times over the drink drive limit when stopped in Denton on Christmas Eve last year, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 52-year-old, of Byron Road, Denton, pleaded guilty to the offence and was banned from the road for two years.

The court heard he was stopped behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Combo van on Stockport Road, Denton, and found to have 110 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He was fined £120 and must also pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

Magistrates issued him with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

Threat of jail for assaults

An Audenshaw man has been given a suspended jail sentence and must stay away from an area of Stalybridge.

Richard Drinkhall, 28, of Corporation Road, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault following incidents on September 1 and September 26 last year.

He was given a ten weeks jail term, suspended for two years.

He must also comply with an exclusion zone within Stalybridge for six months.

Magistrates ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £125 and ordered him to participate in an accredited rehabilitation programme for 30 days.

Lengthy curfew for selling fake designer gear

Tameside magistrates handed Stuart Bell a six months curfew order for selling fake designer T-shirts.

The 41-year-old, of Linnet Close, Audenshaw, pleaded guilty to four separate charges relating to the sale of fake Louis Vuitton T-shirts between June and August last year.

Magistrates issued him the curfew meaning he must remain at his Linnet Close, Audenshaw address between the hours of 7pm and 7am each day for the six months.

He was ordered to pay £500 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge and was issued with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, meaning he must attend appointments as and when required with a responsible officer.

Dangerous driver banned

Driving dangerously through Ashton has cost Samee Haider his driving licence for 14 months.

The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a VW Golf dangerously along Manchester Road in Ashton on January 13 this year.

Tameside magistrates banned him from the road for the 14 months and ordered him to carry out 100 hours unpaid work.

He must pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

His address was given as Brudnell Grove, Leeds.

Payback time for store thefts

Kyle Donlan admitted stealing items from Glossop’s Savingzone and B&M stores when he appeared before Tameside Magistrates’ Court.

The 29-year-old, whose address was given as Etherow Way, Hadfield, admitted both offences.

Magistrates heard he had taken washing tablets worth £24.50 from Savingzone on September 15 last year and stole eight Smart watches from B&M on October 22 last year worth £160.

He was given a 12 months conditional discharge and ordered to pay £184.50 in total compensation.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a £22 victim surcharge.

Drugs discovery

David Williams, 23, of Hibbert Avenue, Denton, was found with a quantity of cannabis and amphetamine in his possession on December 27 last year, Tameside magistrates heard.

He admitted the charges and was given a 12 months conditional discharge, plus ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £22 victim surcharge.

Magistrates ordered the drugs be forfeited and destroyed.

Too threatening

Tameside magistrates fined Andrew Evans £80 for being threatening and abusive at Ashton Police Station on November 11 last year.

The court found the offence to be both racially and religiously aggravated and he was ordered to pay a £34 victim surcharge and issued with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

The 52-year-old’s address was given as Stanley Grove, Longsight.

Stole dashcams from motors firm

Anthony Mellor stole three dashcams’ from the RRG Motorgroup in Denton worth more than £1,100, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 56-year-old admitted taking the dashcams on December 15 last year, plus a further charge of stealing one dashcam from the same motor company in Bolton on December 10 last year worth £379.99.

Magistrates fined him £200 and ordered him to pay £379.99 compensation plus a victim surcharge of £34.

His address was given as St Luke’s Court, Oldham.

Found guilty

Jamie McMeekin-Heslam has been fined £380 by Tameside magistrates for failing to provide a specimen when required to do so while in charge of a vehicle.

The 25-year-old, of Blackshaw Road, Glossop, had denied the offence relating to an incident on August 29, 2020, but was found guilty by the court.

His driving licence was endorsed with ten penalty points and he must pay £85 court costs and a £38 victim surcharge.
