Pupils will 'bee' up and running with Foundation grant boost

A grant from The Running Bee Foundation is set to see pupils from Flowery Field Primary School getting happy and healthy, with a brand new running club in the works once schools return to normal.

The Running Bee Foundation provides grants from profits raised from all its UK races to give to community initiatives across Manchester and the North West to help promote health and well-being and the fight to tackle and reduce childhood obesity.

A sum of £350 was awarded to the school at an award ceremony at Dukinfield Town Hall back in February 2020 - before Covid and lockdown put a stop to plans.

But that hasn’t deterred Paul Smith, assistant headteacher at Flowery Field School, from getting excited about the prospect of getting pupils moving and enjoying healthy activities.

“Once life has returned to something like normal (and we are able to run extra-curricular activities), our new running club here at Flowery Field will be good to go,” he said.

“The money we have received from the Running Bee Foundation will be instrumental in increasing the activity levels of many children and helping them to re-establish healthy routines. We know that during these periods of lockdown, many children have found it more difficult than ever to be active so the money will make a huge difference.”
