Members of the Create Centre in Denton are set to take their 'Hats Off To Denton' as they prepare for the launch of the sculpture trail this weekend.
The unique trail embraces and acknowledges a huge and extremely important part in Denton's history.
The 15-hat trail – five of them giant – will be in Denton town centre between Saturday, February 19, and Sunday, March 13.
Each hat will be a unique creation painted by a local artist with many inspired by schools and community groups.
All the artists involved are based in Greater Manchester and several are from Tameside. They include Gordon Banks, Lizzie Rigby, Amina Sheikh and CBeebies artist Vanessa Scott.
Tameside Libraries and Culture issued an update in light of Storm Eunice.

From as early as 1702 when Queen Anne was on the throne, to 2022 where we will be celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee later in the year, there have been hat makers in Denton. Therefore, from tricorn hats to Gatsby caps, (still being made for the TV show ‘Peaky Blinders’), Denton continues to play a significant part in the hatting industry.
Even Thomas Bowler, the founder of the bowler hat came from Denton.
The CREATE Centre, will have its very own hat, themed ‘Equality, Inclusion and Diversity’, provided by ‘Hats Off To Denton’ which has been colourfully and beautifully decorated by the centre’s clients and staff.
The hat will be on display in the centre’s window throughout the celebration from this Saturday until March 13.
The hat trail launch takes place between 11am until 1.30pm this Saturday at The CREATE Centre, 8-10 Market Street, Denton.
The centre will be giving away free picnic boxes packed with delicious food and free drinks. The centre’s Dizzy Daisy Bar will be open, selling cocktails, wine and beer.
Plus, look out for Alice in Wonderland and The Mad Hatter themselves who will be gracing the bar and helping to entertain you.
Laurel and Hardy will be providing giggles and knocking each other’s hats off! Activities include hat-making, a music/drama workshop and the op- portunity to learn about the history of hat-making.
The hat trail will be launched by Cllr Vincent Ricci.
