One-stop shop for cultural activities in Tameside launched

A new website for culture, community and creatives has been launched to encourage people to come together creatively in Tameside.

Tameside Council says the In Tameside site will "showcase the incredible cultural offer that the region has" and will "act as the one-stop shop for unearthing all of the cultural activity in Tameside".

Coinciding with the announcement that Stalybridge has been awarded the Greater Manchester Town of Culture status for 2022, the launch of In Tameside is not only a reminder of the people, venues, events and local natural beauty that the area has to offer, but a call to action for residents and visitors to engage more with art, making, history, community, education and nature.

A website shop will follow soon, with products curated especially for In Tameside by local artist Sarah Hardacre, who has selected artists and makers based in Tameside and the surrounding area to produce beautiful objects that showcase and celebrate the area.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Culture, Councillor Leanne Feeley, said: “In Tameside is a one-stop-shop that enables everyone to easily discover our diverse and exciting cultural offer. We want to bring people together to enrich community life through the arts within our beautiful surroundings and I believe you will find it all here in Tameside.  I am very proud of the collaborative effort gone in to making the launch of this site possible, and working with local creatives to develop and design the website embodies our approach to supporting local creative businesses and organisations.

“This is another exciting project designed to place Tameside firmly on the map within Greater Manchester’s cultural offer and I would encourage everyone to take a look at the website and discover the wealth of activities, events and opportunities available. We also welcome ideas for events, partnerships, and collaborations and you can contact our team via the website to help make your ideas happen.”

In Tameside has been made possible via investment from the Arts Council’s Cultural Recovery Fund.

It has been created through collaboration with Tameside Council, local designer Michelle Lyons of Point North Brand Co based in Stalybridge, North West web builders Playmaker, as well as the team behind Local, a place-making arts organisation working across the region to deliver sustainable cultural projects, residencies, commissions, consultancy and events.
