Nostalgia: Keith and Orville meet biggest fan

Back in 1978, Andree Pierson - of Thompson Road in Denton - enjoyed a double treat on her 13th birthday.

She went to see the Tameside Theatre pantomime Cinderella -  and finally got to meet her showbiz cousin.

Keith Harris, ‘bestest friend’ to Orville the duck - was appearing in the show as Buttons.

It was as though the Fairy Godmother had waved her magic wand to make Andree’s greatest wish come true as she celebrated becoming a teenager.

Keith had a hectic schedule of TV and stage appearances worldwide and previously had always been too far away for Andree to catch up with him.

Having met for the first time before the performance, Keith introduced her to his co-stars comedian Jack Douglas and Crossroads’ Amy Turtle - actress Ann George.

“The pantomime was great,” Andree told us. “All the children loved Keith, Orville and Cuddles the monkey.”

Afterwards Keith presented her with a copy of the programme signed by all the cast.

Andree avidly watched all her cousin’s TV shows and was hoping to see him live on stage again - if her parents would agree to go on holiday in Great Yarmouth where Keith had signed up for a summer season.
