An award-winning Mossley writer is staging his latest play in Manchester.
Ian Townsend’s My Favourite Place in the Whole Wide World is on at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester from Tuesday 1 March to Sunday 6 March.
It’s directed and produced by 1974 Productions, a theatre company which is also based in Mossley.
It tells the stories of J and Ruth, two people in search of love and purpose in a world of confusion and loss.
Shot through with humour, it’s an engaging and heartfelt play about growing up, finding your place in the world, and making unexpected connections.
The characters go on a journey from childhood to their 30s and looks at the mistakes they’ve made and how they’ve come to terms with them.
Ian (pictured) said: “There are themes of loneliness, mental health and taking responsibility, and the female character is plus-size, which is under-represented on stage.”
The two characters are played by Ben Kenzie, who is from Hyde, making his professional debut after graduating from Manchester School of Theatre; and Claire Eden, from Leeds, who appeared in the Take That musical as well as understudying Josie Prenger in the West End.
