Mossley to remember Manchester Arena tragedy

REMEMBERING: Father David Warner at St John's Church.

The people of Mossley will pay their own special tribute this weekend to those who tragically lost their lives in the Manchester Arena bombing.

Saturday, May 22, sees the fourth anniversary of the terrorist attack which killed 23 people, including the attacker, and injured more than 800.

The attack took place as people were leaving a concert by American singer Ariana Grande.

St John’s Church in Mossley will be flood-lit on Saturday after 10pm, for one minute in memory of every person who died. The lights will go off at 10.31pm, the time the bomb exploded.

The Vicar of Mossley, Father David Warner, said: “On Saturday evening of this week, 22nd May, we recall those who lost their lives, and those whose lives were changed forever by the Manchester Arena bombings in 2017.

“As we have done now for several years, the floodlights of St John’s Church Roughtown will be switched on from 10.09pm, staying on for a minute for each life lost in the tragedy - the lights will go out at 10.31pm, the moment the bomb exploded.

“If you can see the church from home, do join in by watching.

“If not, why not safely light your own candle, and remember.”

You can also tune into his thought for the day, on Sundays on Tameside Radio around 8.30am on 103.6FM.
