Mossley set to mark twinning milestone

2022 is not just a Platinum Jubilee celebration for Her Majesty The Queen, it is also a Golden Jubilee celebration for Mossley!

The weekend of Friday 23 to Sunday 25 September marks the 50th anniversary of Mossley 'twinning' with the town of Hem in France.

To celebrate this milestone, Mossley Town Council and the Mossley Twinning Committee began the ambitious undertaking of producing a series of creative responses and projects under the theme of twinning, alongside organising a variety of events.

Town Twinning was established as part of the post-war drive to bring greater understanding between communities in Europe.

There are hundreds of towns now twinned, many with two or more partners.

The project named Jubilee Jumelage (jumelage means twinning in French) boasts projects from artists based in Mossley, collaborating with other artists based in Hem.

Mossley artists involved are: Mossley Writers, GW Theatre, Born and Bred Dance Theatre, ReCreate Mossley, Ushiku Crisafulli, Diana Terry, Judith Alsop Miles and Odyssey Studios. Their projects involve dance, music, drama, hip hop, painting, mono-printing, writing, poetry and film.

There are many ways in which people can get involved with the twinning celebration. You can take part in free arts workshops or enjoy one of the many events on offer. A full timetable of workshops and events can be found on Facebook @JubileeJumelage and on www.intameside.co.uk

During the main weekend in September, delegates from Hem will be visiting Mossley, staying with local hosts and attending events that showcase the town.
