A man who was found dead at a house in Mossley has been named by police as a murder investigation into his death continues.

At 10.30am last Sunday morning (3 July), Greater Manchester Police were called to a report of concern for the welfare of a man at an address on Riverside.

The body of a man, who has now been identified as 38-year-old Thomas Campbell, was discovered when officers attended.

Detectives launched a murder inquiry and an increased police presence has been at the scene, where floral tributes have also been left.

Police say specialist officers are supporting Thomas's family at this time and the investigation continues to progress.

GMP have described the attack as "horrific" and "targeted" as they appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Mark Davis, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This was a horrific attack on a man in his home and our thoughts are very much with the family who are understandably distressed and wanting answers.

“A team of detectives have been working around the clock to find those responsible in what we believe at this time to have been a targeted attack.

“A number of lines of enquiry are still being carried out but I would ask anyone with information to come forward – no matter how small it may seem.

“Information, images, video or dash cam footage can be easily submitted to https://mipp.police.uk/operation/06GMP22G12-PO1 or at our website or via LiveChat at www.gmp.police.uk.

“Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

MP Jonathan Reynolds, who represents Mossley, said: "My heart goes out to the loved ones of this constituent. I’m grateful to the police who attended the scene, continue to maintain a presence in the area and are keeping us informed as appropriate. A terribly sad occurrence in one of our nicest places to live. Thinking of the whole Mossley community."
