Mossley celebrates special Fairtrade anniversary

Mossley is flying the flag for a special anniversary, as the town is celebrating 10 years as a Fairtrade Town with a series of special events.

Fairtrade Fortnight got off to a flying start with the unveiling of three colourful flags outside Mossley Methodist Church.

ReCreate Mossley, in partnership with Fairtrade Mossley, produced the 3mx4m silk batik flags to celebrate Mossley’s 10 years of being a Fairtrade Town.

The flags had been due to be installed on Monday, February 21, but recent stormy weather postponed the event until last Wednesday.

Recreate Mossley thanked Cabasa Carnival Arts who helped design the flags and Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership who funded the project.

As part of the Fairtrade Fortnight celebrations, Mossley Methodist Church also held Fair Ted’s Community Big Brew where visitors dropped in to enjoy Fairtrade food and found out about Fairtrade and climate change, the future of our food and those who produce it.

Fair Ted - the Fairtrade mascot - and friends were also at Mossley Co-op sharing news about farmers who produce our coffee, cocoa and bananas. Schools also took part with assemblies, learning, video blogs, competitions, baking, hot chocolate drinks and banana treats.

To find out more about Fairtrade you can join the Fairtrade’s Choose The World You Want free online festival - highlighting how the climate crisis is affecting the future of food and those who produce it.
