Man attacked with a hammer in Ashton

Police are investigating after a man was attacked with a weapon, understood to be a hammer, on a street in Ashton. 

It happened in the early hours of Saturday morning (30 October) on Stamford Square. 

Fortunately, the man in his 20s suffered only minor injuries and didn't need to go to hospital.  

Police believe the incident was an isolated one and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. 

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called at just after 12.45am on Saturday morning (30 October) to a report of an assault on Stamford Square, Ashton-under-Lyne. 

"Police arrived and enquiries established that a man in his 20s had been assaulted with a weapon.

"The victim suffered minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

"Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made. This is believed to be an isolated incident." 

Anyone with any information is urged to contact police online, if able, at www.gmp.police.uk or 101, quoting incident number 123 of 30/10/21.
