Man armed with hammer at Ashton retail park appears in court

Tameside Magistrates' Court in Ashton.

A Denton man found armed with a hammer at Ashton's Snipe Retail Park has been given a suspended jail sentence by Tameside magistrates.

Adam Flowers, 34, of St Anne's Drive, admitted an offence of having an offensive weapon in a public place on 21 May last year.

He admitted a further charge of being threatening and abusive towards an individual on the same date.

Magistrates handed him a 26 weeks jail term, suspended for 12 months.

He was handed an eight-week curfew, meaning he must remain at his address between the hours of 9pm and 6am each night.

The court also ordered him to pay £100 compensation, a victim surcharge of £128 and court costs of £85.

Magistrates issued him with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, meaning he must attend appointments and meetings as and when instructed to do so by an officer.

They ordered the hammer to be forfeited and destroyed.
