Lots planned to mark Military History Month in Tameside

Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre.

November, the month of remembrance which is most closely associated with the armed forces, has been designated Military History Month by Tameside Local Studies and Archives with a range of events lined up.

On Tuesday, November 9, there will be a special Making Friends with the Archives event at 2pm, focusing on remembrance and community. 

The following Saturday, November 13, the local studies centre hosts a military history fair.

Medals expert Simon Butterworth will be present from 10am (appointments only), and at 10.30am, Tim Bell will give a talk entitled ‘The Forgotten Battalion of the Manchester Regiment’ which will also be available on Zoom.

There will be a military history helpdesk at 11am (appointments only), plus a display of Private George William Smith’s service record. 

On Wednesday, November 17, Lauren Gradwell will be talking about the Hyde War Memorial Project (also available by Zoom) at 2pm.
