Aspirations students at Tameside College have been supporting the Ukraine appeal, collecting essential items for those fleeing the conflict. 

Kind-hearted students from the Ashton-based college have already put together over 30 boxes of items, which include: clothing, footwear, toiletries, books and toys. These have been have separated into items for men, women and in particular, children. 

Currently, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has displaced some 2.5 million people over the course of three weeks. 

Working in their citizenship classes, the project aims to help the students understand the wider world around them and be mindful of those less fortunate. 

Once packed, the items will be delivered to Ukrainian refugees via the ‘Lifeline Community Ambulance’, a local community interest company, which will undertake a trip to the Poland-Ukraine border in the coming weeks. 

Mark Eubank, aspirations teacher at Tameside College, said: “I am very proud of the work students have been doing to help those fleeing Ukraine and it’s fantastic that so many items have already been donated to help the appeal.

"The students have worked really hard to make this happen and I think that it will not only benefit refugees, but the students themselves by helping them to think about others and develop organisational skills.”
