Inspirational community hero receives Citizen's Award from MP

May Trill receiving her Citizen's Award from Denton MP Andrew Gwynne.

Denton MP Andrew Gwynne has presented the latest of his Citizen's Awards to a community hero who has devoted her life to Girlguiding.

For the past 70 years, May Trill has been a Girlguiding leader in various roles, including as District and Divisional Commissioner.

Now in her 90s, May continues to make a valuable contribution to Girlguiding whenever she can, and recently helped Guides to complete a macramé plant plot task that had the younger leaders completely stumped.

May was presented with her award at the Eucharist Service at Christ Church in Denton.

Gwynne's Citizen's Awards were started back in 2020, and aim to celebrate community heroes who go above and beyond for local people. Since their inception, Gwynne has awarded over 70 awards to worthy winners across Denton and Reddish.

Mr Gwynne said: "It was such a privilege to present this award to May.

"May is a community hero and has an incredible ability to connect with young people. She has devoted her life to Girlguiding, and her work continues to inspire the new generation of Guides.

"It was great to recognise her lifelong contribution and commitment to the Guiding Movement. I can't think of anyone more deserving of a Citizen's Award than May."
