Hyde group given boost by Dukinfield school

DONATION DELIVERY: Some of the items collected.

Broadbent Fold Primary School pupils in Dukinfield have donated their harvest items to Sandwich Angels Community Group.

It was all thanks to one of the pupils, six-year-old Jacob Walker, who came up with the idea.

He says his dream when he is older is to build houses for homeless people and help families who are hungry.

The avid Manchester United fan seems to be following in the footsteps of one of his heroes Marcus Rashford.

The children brought bags into school brimming with a variety of goods.

Jacob then met the Sandwich Angels’ volunteers John Deakin, a retired teacher, and Diane Deakin, a retired civil servant, and helped to fill their car with the items.

Christina Howard, founder / coordinator of Sandwich Angels Food Boxes, said: “Thanks to Broadbent Fold for their donations which enabled us to deliver 47 big food boxes to struggling families, the elderly and vulnerable. Our highest respects to Jacob Walker and his classmates, their families and the head teacher and staff at the school.

“Many hungry children were fed thanks to them. Such help means a lot to us as we are not government funded and we operate seven days a week. All of us are unpaid volunteers and admire Jacob’s dream as we have recently seen an huge shortage of houses as more people struggle being able to pay household bills, energy and food.

“We estimate a difficult winter ahead for many.”
