How Stalybridge nursery children are helping other local youngsters

Children at a Stalybridge nursery have used the inspiration of Captain Sir Tom Moore's legacy to raise £1,000 for the children's ward at Tameside Hospital.

Twenty-three children - aged between four months and four years old - from Grow Happy Childcare did a sponsored walk around Gorse Hall field.

Pippa Perks, Deputy Manager at Grow Happy Childcare, explains their inspiration for their fundraising efforts.

“It was our senior member of staff who came up with the idea to raise money in memory of Sir Tom," Pippa says. "We thought a walk would be the perfect way to honour his memory, as this is how he raised the monies."

She added: “We are forever grateful to the NHS for always being there and wanted to donate to our local children’s ward. We all thoroughly enjoyed doing this and all our parents were happy to support this good cause.”

Kerry Reede Field, Head of Midwifery and Children’s Services at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “How lovely of Grow Happy Childcare to think of us with their amazing fundraising efforts.

"I think Sir Tom would approve of their sponsored walk. This money will make such a difference to local children and their families.”
