How eligible Tameside households can get energy rebate payment

Tameside households in Council Tax bands A to D will receive an energy rebate payment of £150 to provide some relief from the rising cost of household bills.

The one-off fixed payment, made between April and September 2022, will be paid straight into the bank account of those eligible, and who pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit. A maximum of one-payment will be made per eligible property which meets all of the government criteria.

Households that have not yet signed up to pay council tax by direct debit can do so quickly and easily before April, however those not signed up will not miss out on the rebate.

Eligible residents will need to apply from April 2022 and send in bank details to enable the payment to be paid into their bank. Application forms will be available on the Councils website in April. The quickest way to receive your £150 energy rebate payment is to pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit.

For those not eligible, a discretionary scheme will be in place for households such as those in Council Tax bands E and above to provide support to people not automatically entitled to a £150 energy rebate payment. Eligibility criteria for this discretionary scheme has not yet been finalised and will be made available as soon as possible.

Councillor Oliver Ryan, executive member for Finance and Economic Growth, said: "As the cost of living increases, we know it is vital to provide financial support to our residents. The increase in energy bills we will see through 2022-2023 will be a struggle for many. The energy rebate payment is one way of supporting households during these difficult times and setting up a direct debit payment is the easiest way to receive the payment in your bank account."
