Health fair at Ashton Library

Ashton Library.

Tameside Council will be hosting a health fair at Ashton Library on Wednesday (6 July) as part of Health Information Week.

Health Information Week is about providing good quality advice so that people can look after their wellbeing

At the health fair, from 10am to 4pm on Wednesday, several organisations working in the borough, such as Age UK, Macmillan and Parkinson's UK, have been invited to show how they can support people with their mental and physical health.

In addition, Active Tameside will be offering a free Tai Chi taster session for adults (from 10.30am to 11am). To book a place, call 0161 342 2031.

Between 2pm and 3pm, there’ll be a coffee afternoon with a chance to browse titles from the national Reading Well booklists and take part in a craft session, as well as finding out what's on at Tameside Libraries and learn about the digital resources available.

There’s another chance to relax the following day (Thursday 7 July) at the Reading Friends session at Hattersley Library (1.30pm to 2.30pm). Adults are welcome to come along to chat, share stories and have fun. Refreshments will be provided.

Councillor Eleanor Wills, Tameside Council’s executive member for adult health, said: “Covid and other recent events have underlined the importance of looking after our health from both a mental and physical perspective.

“Through our Health Information Week events, and especially the fair at Ashton Library, we’re offering a wide range of friendly and informal advice on how people can take care of themselves. Relaxation and taking a break are important too, which is why we’re hosting the coffee afternoon and Reading Friends event.

“I hope as many people as possible accept our invitation and pay us a visit. I’m sure they’ll learn something to their benefit.”
