Gun found during late-night raid in Denton

Armed officers descended on a quiet street in Haughton Green last night (Thursday).

UPDATE 12:30PM: Residents of Fernley Avenue have been evacuated from their homes.

They've been told to expect to be out for a number of hours and the community centre on Tatton Road has been opened for those that have no where else to go.

The bomb squad is reportedly en route to the scene.

A specialist team executed a warrant at an address on Fernley Avenue, Haughton Green, on Thursday (9 December) evening.

The police recovered several items of interest, including what they suspect to be firearms, and have taken them to be forensically examined.

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and explosives and remains in custody for questioning.

Police say at the moment there isn’t thought to be a wider threat to the public.

Officers remain on the scene this morning should anyone have any concerns.
