Guide Dogs light up library coffee morning

Visitors to Denton West End Community Library were in for a treat when they were greeted by some friendly pups.

The library staged a special coffee morning for the Guide Dogs' charity to raise funds and awareness.

Lending a helping paw were trainee Guide Dogs Ella, a 12-month-old Labrador/retriever cross, brought along by trainer Cathy Pickering; and five-month-old Labrador Aero, brought along by trainers Diane and Terry Finn.

Pups go to trainers when they are eight weeks old and go into advanced training at around 16 months old.

Terry said: "We love going to these events. They are always a fantastic opportunity to socialise the dogs and raise the profile of the charity.

"The children's reactions towards Aero and Ella made it all worthwhile. We are so grateful to be invited and we will be back!"

Terry said Aero is their third pup and Ella is Cathy's second.

Denton West End Community Library, which is a voluntary-run library and hub, invited the Guide Dogs to attend the coffee morning, both as an educational event for the local community and to support charity.

A spokesperson for the library said: "We had various crafts which were related to Guide Dogs, from hand puppets to colouring, all crafts were free of charge.

"We have a large selection of crafts available every Saturday morning, including monthly adult craft packs.

"The library volunteers baked cakes and served refreshments on the day, while more than 100 visitors learnt about the Guide Dogs and enjoyed interacting with them.

"The morning was a great success and the library coffee morning raised £85 for the Guide Dogs, plus £64 on their own stall."
