Friends of the Tame Valley live up to their name again

The Friends of the Tame Valley held another successful clean-up event on Sunday morning (27 February), with bags of litter being shifted by the volunteer group.

The Friends group was formed in 2021 with the help of Denton MP Andrew Gwynne and has gone from strength to strength since.

They’ve helped raise money for signage and footpath repairs, cleared invasive species of weeds, and cleared countless bags of litter from the valley.

Last weekend, the Friends teamed up with the River Tame Anglers' and the Mersey Rivers Trust to spruce up Shepley Wood in Audenshaw, and Jet Amber Fields in Denton.

They were joined by MP Gwynne, as well as Denton North East Councillor Allison Gwynne.

Commenting on the success of the day, Andrew Gwynne, who is also Secretary of the group, said: "We had such a fantastic turnout to this litter pick, and even had some springtime sun to greet us.

"I’d just like to say a massive thanks to all the volunteers who took time out of their Sunday, and to the River Tame Anglers’ and the Mersey Rivers Trust for helping us on the day. It really is so inspiring to see local people teaming up with community groups and charities to look after the beautiful Tame Valley.

"If you’re interested, please get in touch, we’re always looking for more volunteers and have some exciting events in the pipeline.”
