Friends of the Tame Valley celebrate first birthday with AGM

Some members of the Friends of the Tame Valley out on a litter pick.

Friends of the Tame Valley, the volunteering group looking after the Tame Valley, are celebrating their first birthday with a second Annual General Meeting.

The group was formed back in 2021 with the help of Denton MP Andrew Gwynne.

Its purpose is to tackle issues in the valley such as broken fencing and stiles, missing signage, badly worn footpaths, litter and tree maintenance issues.

Since its inception, the group has had huge success; organising several well-attended litter picking events, and raising funding for much-needed sign and footpath restoration.

The group is now encouraging anyone who is interested in protecting and improving the valley to get involved and join the next AGM on Tuesday 22 February at 7.15pm over Zoom.

Commenting, Andrew Gwynne said: “I’m immensely proud of the work that Friends of the Tame Valley have done over the last year. We’ve had an overwhelming response from local businesses, volunteers and charities who just want to help out and improve the valley for everyone.

"I’d just like to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported Friends of the Tame Valley over the last year. I know that with continued support, FoTV will grow from strength to strength.

"The AGM is open to everyone, so if you’re interested in getting involved don’t hesitate to get in touch!”

Those wishing to attend the AGM should email ajgwynne@sky.com for the Zoom link.

Attendees are also welcome to put themselves forward for committee membership or any of the below posts:

  • Chair
  • Secretary
  • Vice Chair
  • Membership Secretary
  • Treasurer

The group will accept nominations up to midnight on Monday 21 February by email, again to agwynne@sky.com
