Tameside charity bags shopping gift

Emmaus Mossley community members Richard and Peter collect Asda donations.

Homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley has received five shopping trolleys filled with donations thanks to a grant from the Asda Foundation.

Emmaus Mossley successfully applied to Asda Foundation’s Transforming Communities and Improving Lives Grants scheme.

The £720 grant was spent on healthy food and hygiene products for the community of 26 formerly homeless people supported by the charity.

Emmaus Mossley provides a home, meaningful work, training and support to people who have experienced homelessness or social exclusion.

People supported by the charity gain skills, confidence and experience by working together in the Emmaus Mossley social enterprise.

Colette Regan, Community Champion at Asda on Cavendish Street in Ashton, said: “It’s great that we are able to help so many local groups with this Transforming Communities Grant.

“Emmaus Mossley is one of four local groups who have received this level of support so far in 2021.”

Asda Foundation’s mission is to transform communities and improve lives.

During the past year, Asda has tailored their grants to support local groups who are in most need of our support by providing three different categories; hygiene, food and well-being.

Alison Hill, Director of Emmaus Mossley, said: “We are very grateful to Asda Foundation, Colette and the team at Asda Ashton for supporting our charity in this very challenging period.

“The food and hygiene products have been gratefully received by our community members and helped to reduce our ongoing costs.”

The majority of funds needed to support the Emmaus Mossley’s work are generated through its social enterprises. Their Secondhand Superstore charity shop at Longlands Mill in Mossley reopened in April after a 14-week closure.
