Elderly woman in 'critical condition' after being hit by car in Ashton

An elderly woman is in a 'critical condition' in hospital after being hit by a car near Ashton bus station.

Emergency services rushed to reports of a road traffic collision on Wellington Road, close to the Interchange, shortly after 2pm on Saturday afternoon (18 December).

Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that a 75-year-old woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries and is in a ‘critical condition’ after being hit by a Mercedes.

The driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene to assist police with their enquiries, GMP say.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

Transport for Greater Manchester said bus services arriving at and departing from Ashton Interchange have been operating from Gas Street or have been diverted, whilst emergency services respond to the incident.

PC Lee Gandy, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a tragic incident in which a woman has been left suffering very serious injuries in hospital.

"Due to this collision happening in the middle of the day and on a weekend, we are hopeful that there are a number of people who saw this incident and will be able to assist police with enquiries.

"If you have any dashcam footage or information please speak to police as soon as possible."
