Dukinfield-based band is looking for new players

Adamson Military Band parading in Dukinfield.

A voluntary wind band based in Dukinfield is looking for new players to join them.

Adamson Military Band is based in their own band room at the Old Courthouse on Russell Street.

Rehearsals are set to resume on 23 June and will then be held every Wednesday evening from 7.45pm to 10pm.

The band, which was established in 1888, is looking for anyone that plays woodwind, brass or percussion.

People of any age and any ability are welcome to join - including those who haven't played for a long time.

Anyone who would like to join can either email mail@adamsonband.org.uk, message the band's Facebook page or just turn up to practice on a Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, the bands might not be parading through the towns and villages of Tameside on Whit Friday, but the sound of brass will still be ringing through the air.

Foden's Band, the reigning open champions, are staging a repeat of the online Whit Friday contest that proved so popular last year to help keep the 150-year-old tradition alive.

Foden’s have generously agreed to donate all entry fees and money raised through their crowdfunding campaign to the Tameside and Saddleworth Whit committees.

To watch the online contests on Friday 28 May, visit www.youtube.com and enter Foden’s Band into the search function.
