Double delight for Tameside's NHS heroes

THANK YOU: Jill and Gillian are congratulated by Pauline and Tameside Hospital Chief Karen James, OBE.

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT Domestic Supervisor Pauline Moore has nominated two of her team for their 'Who's Your Hero Awards'.

They have been nominated not just for their hard work, long service and professionalism, but for being what she calls, ‘very special colleagues’.

Pauline said: “I nominated Gillian Burgess for her commitment to domestic services; she always likes to be involved in whatever is going on in our service, Gillian lives in Stalybridge with her husband Paul.

“She has two children, Natalie and Mark and a young grandson, Eric. She looks after her mum who was a sister here at the Trust for 30 years on outpatients and has a dog called Geoffrey.

“It must run in the family because Gillian too has worked here for 30 years and supervises the south area. She is a lovely lady.”

Pauline added: “I wanted to nominate Jill Hilton for all her hard work with helping all colleagues with their e-Learning.

“She goes above and beyond with domestic, porters, and kitchen staff to get them on to the e-Learning, and she does this just to help them out.

“Jill works at Werneth House as a domestic and is very well thought of by all members of staff there. I think she mothers them all.

“Jill too has also been at the Trust for over 30 years but has broken service as she tried a health care assistant job some years ago but preferred her domestic role and came back to us.”

Jill lives in Ashton with her husband Paul and has two daughters, two granddaughters and a grandson, and loves her holidays to Tenerife.

Paul Featherstone, Trust Director of Estates and Facilities, said the awards are very well deserved.

“It’s important that hospitals and clinics are kept clean. This makes them welcoming places for patients to be treated and stops infection spreading.

“This is a role where customer service is the focus. Many of our domestic services assistants have contact with patients as they deliver food or clean linen to wards  and a kind word can make all the difference.

“Jill and Gillian have a wealth of experience between them and we are lucky to have them both on our team.”
