Our region's music scene is unrivalled and, here, Tameside Radio presenter Dave Sweetmore shines the spotlight on a flourishing four-piece indie rock band from Greater Manchester...
On Monday night on my Tameside Radio show, I was joined by Alannah Webb, lead singer of The Facades.
Hailing from Wigan, they are one of a number of new bands from the town famous for its music, its clubs, and its Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls, who are playing a huge part in a thriving North West new music scene.
Alannah, who comes from a family full of passion for music, and now lives in Salford, met the band’s guitarist Evan Armstrong whilst studying music, and early last year formed The Facades.
They were later joined by drummer Luke Ashton and bass player Sam Bowery. Forming just before a worldwide pandemic took hold meant very few live gigs were able to happen for the band, but this meant they could spend time writing, being creative, and in the studio recording.
This weekend they release their debut single, ‘That Letter’, which has already received much praise and radio play.
For a band who have only been together just over a year, and with only a handful of live gigs behind them, they have wasted no time in getting their name out on the scene.
A successful appearance on cult Manchester TV channel MMTV last year gained them a bigger audience from this side of Greater Manchester, and with a forever growing fanbase, the future promises to be very bright for the band.
Live gigs and more new music has been promised for later this year, and with all four of the band coming from the streets that have recently produced The Lathums, Stanleys, Flechettes, Garden Party, Rivver, Joe Astley and The Lilacs, to name just a few. The Facades are very much a strong part of Wigan’s place in this exciting new music scene in the North West we are currently enjoying, and loving.
The Facades can be found on all the usual social media channels, and their new single ‘That Letter’ is released on all music platforms this weekend.
