Dave Sweetmore column: Music magic of Bayfest is back

In his latest column, the Tameside Radio presenter and DJ tells us about a music festival which is returning to a popular pub in the borough this weekend.

This Sunday Bayfest returns to the popular Bay Horse pub in Haughton Green.

Held on a purpose-built stage at the rear of the venue, the now annual festival returns after an event which was one of the musical highlights of Tameside’s calendar in 2021.

Once again, all profits made on the day will be for a good cause, this year being the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

Put together by the pub’s manager Alexandra Hill, Bayfest 2022 will also be held in memory of Keith Halligan, a popular Tameside musician, who, along with son George and their Tameside-born company Audioface, was also one of last year’s production team for the event, and also Jo Schofield, a great friend of The Bay Horse, both who we have sadly lost since last year’s festival took place.

The main stage line-up this year is a strong one, and features as headliners Manchester’s iconic musical supergroup ‘San Pedro Collective’, which features ex-members of The Fall and Paris Angels.

Also playing on the day is Leah Fisher, the Rochdale-born musician who is quickly becoming one of our new favourite up-and-coming female singer songwriters, plus three of the most popular and talked about home-grown new generation of Manchester rock ‘n’ roll stars Alex Spencer, Jace Campbell and Scotty Dunning will all be playing live. Completing the line-up on the day are Not Ned, Stone Mile, The Fay Brothers, Rezzemblance, Hector’s House, and cover duo Smudge.

UP AND COMING: Leah Fisher

Hosted by Bay Horse resident DJ Tony Quinn, it’s a brilliant line-up that will be a full day of quality live music.

The outside festival area will also have outdoor bars and food stalls, plus there will be children’s entertainment on site, ensuring another successful family friendly day will be had, all in aid of an amazing cause. There will also be raffles and many local businesses have made donations, while a Manchester United shirt signed by Paul Scholes will be auctioned to boost funds further.

I have no doubt that this will be another huge success for Alex and her team, and Bayfest will be an event that will continue to grow each year.  It’s a great day that I’d highly recommend.

The event starts at 1pm and finishes at 10.30pm, and tickets are available on skiddle by searching Bayfest.

I wish everyone involved with Bayfest 2022 a really great day, and I guarantee everyone who goes and supports the event will have a brilliant time, with a day full of great live music.

Bayfest 2022 takes place this Sunday within the grounds of Haughton Green’s Bay Horse.
