Dave Sweetmore column: Festival fever in Tameside

The Tameside Radio presenter tells us all about an outdoor music festival he'll be hosting right here in Tameside, which is coming up in May...

Next month will see Tameside’s first decent sized outdoor music festival of 2022 take place, when the now well established family friendly ‘Made In Manchester Festival’ arrives at Astley Sports Village near Dukinfield.

The event will take place on Saturday 28 May, and as always promises a full day and night of some of the country’s best and most loved tribute bands, alongside some of Greater Manchester’s best new and unsigned music.

Combining both is what makes this festival brand unique, and along with the fact that the day is also family friendly, means it’s guaranteed to be a great day and night out for both families and groups of friends.

I’ll be hosting and DJing the main stage on the day, alongside live performances from fully live tributes to Oasis, Courteeners, Stone Roses, and Happy Mondays.

Also playing on the day are Tameside’s favourite musical sons Alex Spencer and Cobain Jones, both of whom have been at the forefront of the new local music scene over the last couple of years.

Since his busking videos started going viral during lockdown, Alex has seen his nationwide fanbase rise.

He has gained a band behind him, and his list of fans now includes the likes of Liam Gallagher and Lady Gaga, who have both shown their support on social media, whilst the now established Cobain Jones has been on the road supporting Paul Weller, as well as still performing live locally and releasing great music.

One of Manchester’s best new bands ‘Afternoon People’ will also be on the bill, who have recently sold out Manchester Academy, and one of the North’s most exciting new female artistes ‘Ambiere’ will also feature.

Other local bands on the day include Mercury Machine, Fragile Audio, New Revolution, and Jake Kelly.

These events are known around the North West for their huge stage production, and the festival site will also include a funfair, a gin and cocktail bar, plus many festival stalls.

The day will also be raising awareness and funds for local causes ‘Fundraising for Florence’, and ‘Dukinfield Town and Youth FC’.

The Made In Manchester Festivals are great days out, with a huge party atmosphere at night, and the event coming to Astley Sports Village is a huge deal for both the area and local economy as well, and I’m sure plenty of memories will be made.

Tickets for Made In Manchester Dukinfield are available now via the festival website, and as these events usually sell out its advisable to buy in advance.

Great music, great times, all in safe and friendly surroundings, is what the Made In Manchester brand and team do best. I can’t wait for it, see you on 28 May!
