Cracking effort to give vulnerable Tameside children an Easter egg

People of Tameside have made a cracking effort to collect Easter eggs for vulnerable local children.

A local collection, set up by Stronger Together, is delivering Easter eggs to cared for children and vulnerable families across the borough.

Stronger Together is an umbrella initiative that consists of a number of local not-for-profit organisations, charities and community groups that have come together to aid and support vulnerable people in Tameside.

The charitable initiative has already collected more than 1,000 chocolate eggs and is halfway towards its goal of collecting 2,000 eggs by Thursday's deadline.

The first 1,000 eggs are currently being distributed to cared for children, children in temporary accommodation and other vulnerable families in the borough.

Last year, the organisation managed to collect an egg-cellent 2,500 eggs for local children, which were distributed by volunteers.

Cllr Bill Fairfoull, Deputy Executive Leader who is responsible for children and families, said: “I’d like to say a special thank you to everyone who has been involved in the organisation and donations for this appeal.

“From Pauline Town MBE who has been providing support to vulnerable families with her team from We Shall Overcome since the start of the pandemic to the generosity of every person who has donated.

“This appeal will bring joy to our most vulnerable families and help create a moment of happiness and magic for the children that receive them.”

This is another of Stronger Together Tameside’s collection and local support appeals.

Previous appeals have included Behind Bras, Stronger Together Christmas Toy Appeal (collecting over 10,000 gifts), Afghanistan Refugee Appeal and larder goods and furniture collections for people moving into new homes after previously being homeless.

Donations can be taken to The Station Pub and Hotel, Warrington Street, Ashton, daily between noon and 4pm where they will be gratefully received.
