Cooking up ways to raise kitchen funds in Mossley

HARD AT WORK: The kitchen revamp is progressing.

It's full steam ahead with the renovations at Mossley Community Centre kitchen.

Fundraisers have been busy raising money for the revamp at the popular centre on Roughtown Road.

Community groups, who enjoy use of the centre, and staff, have been busy thinking up ways to raise cash which will go towards building work and appliances.

Chris Frost, from the centre, said: “We have managed to get the electrics, plastering, lighting, painting - many at cost thanks to local trades - a donated dishwasher, we re-purposed some items, purchased a cooker from funds raised by previous Good Vibrations fashion shows and we are now ready to order the units.

“With funds we received from the Co-op and cash from reserves, we still need to raise £3,000. In addition, we are looking at ways to install an access ramp at a reasonable price and are liaising with a number of suppliers and trades.

“We also had the first of our regular monthly car boot sales on Mossley Market on the first Saturday of the month. We also had a plant sale, all potted up by our garden gang volunteers to raise funds for various projects at the centre.”

POPULAR: The centre on Roughtown Road

The centre is used by a variety of groups, including Mossley School of Dance, Good Vibrations Singing Group and Mossamba Drumming Group.

The Friends of Mossley Community Centre Kitchen have also set up a GoFundMe page to help with funds.

They said: “Mossley Community Centre sits at the heart of our neighbourhood, and provides a whole range of activities and support from baby massage to drumming, dance and art.

“The construction of our new kitchen will allow us to explore new activities and opportunities for education, recreation and health and well-being for all ages.

“Just by donating a small amount, you would be playing your part in the future of Mossley and its community.”
