Charity's purr-fect Christmas calendar

Cute cats are the stars of the show in a new animal charity calendar.

Friendly felines who were once residents at Millstream Animal Shelter in Clayton Bridge adorn the pages of the calendar, which is on sale at the shelter and the charity's shop for £5 each. It features cats in their new forever homes.

Millstream has continued to work during the pandemic, taking in unwanted cats and kittens and re-homing them.

Rosemary Pictor from the shelter said: "In 2020, only 20 fewer cats were re-homed than in the pre-Covid year of 2019.

"This year looks to be following the trend, all due to the hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers and the continued support of the public.

"Ways of work have had to change and visitors are only seen by appointment unless coming with donations of food or items for the shop when the shelter is open every day between 10am and 3pm.

"Prospective owners can now see cats that are available for homing on the Millstream Facebook page and be interviewed/vetted before being given an appointment to come and view a specific cat in which they have shown interest.

"Cats being brought into the shelter for re-homing also need to be given an appointment before they come in."

Due to the pandemic, the charity shop moved from Oldham Road in Ashton (where social distancing wasn't possible) to a site next to the animal shelter which previously housed dog kennels.

The shop is a spacious area with room for a large assortment of items for sale. It is open Monday to Saturday 11am to 3pm.
